Grid square 9478 has streams that do not join the main river because they are "disappearing" streams that lack the water necessary to do so and dry up in the sand instead.  

Explanation:

  • Because trees and other plants may absorb the water, little streams may not join any rivers. In areas with little rainfall, streams may dry up before joining a larger stream or a river.
  • There are no rivers in the area code 9478 since the streams there dry up or vanish into the desert. 9575 is yet another grid square.
