Sanskrit was the not the reason for setting up Madrasah
- Madrasah was one of the oldest educational institutes in Calcutta.
- It was started by Warren Hastings in 1780.
- The subjects that were taught in the institues were Persian, Arabic, Islamic laws.
- It did not provide Sanskrit education.
- The education provided in this institutes was used to fill the vacant posts in the revenue collection and judiciary.
- After independence, the state government took control over the institute and administration was under the state government.
- Now it was changed into a university and called Aliah University. It started providing education across different streams.
Therefore, the British created such institutes to train the locals in linguistic education to cater the needs of the British administration.
