Explanation:

1.(a) Volume is the quantity of three-dimensional space enclosed by a closed surface, for example, the shape that a substance ( solid, liquid, gas or plasma) or shape occupied or contains and its SI unit is cubic metre.

(b). The SI unit of volume is the cubic metre (m3) which is the volume occupied by a cube that measures 1m on each side.

(c). The sub multiples of volume are milliletre, centiletre,and deciletre.Their value in terms of SI system ( letre) are : 1 mililitre = 0.001 letre , 1 centimetre= 0.01 letre, 1 deciletre= 0.01 letre.

Submultiples are units which are smaller in magnitude than SI unit.

2. (a) The unit for length in SI system is m, where matchbox having a length much less than m only in some cm claims its dimention to be better represented in cm.it is reason behind the given statement.

(b) m^3

Volume of matchbox ( cuboid ) is given by l×b×h. where l is the length b is the breadth and h is height. Since all the dimentions are measured in metre (m) so units of volume is metre cube or m^3.
