Stresses on Communal Harmony

Kolkata, 15 March : Miss Mamata Bandyopadhyay Cheif Minister of West Bengal, addressed a huge gathering of people at a meeting held at Sahid Minar today at 2 p.m. More than eighty thousand people coming from different corners of the State assembled at the venue to listen to the Chief Minister. Addressing the mammoth gathering. Ms Bandyopadhyay dwelt mainly on the need for maintaining harmony amongst the people of different communities in the state. She reminded that India has a long history of communal harmony, even though occasional incidents try to disturb it. She stressed on the perennial message of India— the message of unity in diversity–and urged people to preserve communal harmony for the good of the country. Any fissipeous tendency to subvert this unit, she reminded, will destroy democracy and lead to country to a civil war. Her wonderful speech was interrupted by occasional applauses from the audience. The meeting came to an end at 5 p. m.
