Rabindra Nath Tagore, popularly known as Gurudev, was born in Calcutta in the year 1861 . Being a teacher at heart he founded a school at Shantiniketan, near Bholpur in the year 1901.
Besides being a musician and an artist Rabindra Nath Tagore was poet par excellent and in 1910 Gitanjali, his best known collection of poems was published which was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 19131913. But protesting against the Jalianwala Bagh Massacre Gurudev surrendered the title in 19191919. In 19211921, he inaugurated the Viswa Bharti University.
Rabindranath Tagore died in 19411941, at a ripe age of about 8080 years.
