The dimensions of kidney

      Length - 10-12 cm

      Breadth - 5-6 cm

       Thickness - 2-3 cm

The kidney can be anatomically divided into two regions as inner medulla and outer cortex. The outer cortex is covered by three layered membrane which mostly consists of fats and peritonium.

The inner medulla can be further divided into medullary pyramids, renal pelvis and renal papilla.

Hope this helps
