Answer:

MODERNIZATION AND CRUMBLING VALUES

Modernization refers to the process which society undergoes social change through industrialization and urbanization. There is a general misconception about modernization and westernization. They do differ, but we in the name of modernization are adopting westernization. It’s not just in our veins but in our blood.

Values are the characteristics which are inherited from generation to generation which differentiate us a social animal. Mark Twain once said “India is the cradle of human race, the birth place of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of tradition. Our values are the most instructive materials in the history of man. Megesthanese, a traveller, ages back wrote in his book Indica. “India is the soil of culture in which values are cultivated and happiness is harvested”.

India was so called vishwaguru; master of world, but now core values are crumbling. Growing number of old-age home, higher divorce rate are the common things heard about modern-modernized India.

Long ago Karl Max made a bold prediction about the future of modern industrial society, such as rise of labour, decline of society and cultural values. Let me not count on dead man’s thoughts. We need to understand in today’s world what modernization means to people.

“It’s doing things different from basic human values

Seeking relationship without commitment and responsibility

Deriving momentary pleasure without thinking of the after effects

Doing things that others do, to tag as modern”.

Reasons for such thinking are pressure of modernizing world, lack of communication with immediate family, lack of emotional support especially from family, lack of emotional support especially from family, lack of self esteem, loss of values and endless desire.

Modernization has made people weak both physically and mentally. Today’s life is full of stress, tension, pressure and worries. This begins right from the child admitted to school. The atmosphere is competitive, hurried life, uncertainty about future, doubts about success, and possibilities of failure. We get into made race of survival forgetting our values.

Ladies and gentleman we all know modernization in our lives have become increasingly dominated by technology has simplified our life but I doubt so. Technology has made life complicated. By invent of social networking people believed new revolution of binding relation had occurred. People are connecting and interacting across continents but ignoring neighbours. Family relations are crumbling children spend much time in play station, watching television in separate room missing the depth and beauty of love of their parents and grandparents.

Fault is not with the modernization itself, it’s the way we perceive. Just look at the oriental countries like China and Japan. They too are modernized but the values are kept intact. Concluding with the words of Dalai Lama “Open your arms to change, but don’t get go of your values”.
