Solution:

We know that the perimeter of a rectangle

= 2 (length + breadth)

Then the perimeter of the rectangle with length 12 cm and breadth 5.5 cm is

= 2 (12 + 5.5) cm

= 2 * 17.5 cm

= 35 cm

Question 2. Find length and breadth of a rectangle whose length is twice its breadth and perimeter is 5.4 km.

Solution:

Let the length = 3x km and breadth = x km

Then by the given condition,

perimeter = 5.4 km

or, 2 (3x + x) = 5.4

or, 2 * 4x = 5.4

or, 8x = 5.4

or, x = 5.4/8

or, x = 0.675

Therefore the length of the rectangle is

= 3 * 0.675 km = 2.025 km

and the breadth of the rectangle is 0.675 km
