1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow-
The Indian elephant is one of the three recognised sub species of the Asia elephant and
native to Asia. In the past 60-70 years, the population of elephants has declined by 50% which is
due to the loss of habitat and poaching
The Asian elephants are smaller than African elephant. Indian elephants have smaller ears
but relatively boarder skulls and larger trunks than African elephants. The toes are large and
broad. Quite unlike their African cousins their abdomen is proportionate with the weight of the
body. The African elephant has a large abdomen as compared to the skull
Indian elephants are found in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand and Many other
Asian countries. They live in grassland and forests. They consume 150 kg of plant mater every
day which are tall grasses, various species of plants and trees illegal killing of elephants,
flourishing ivory trade and their their shrinking habitat pose a great threat to their existence
