Q1) Convert the following in the lowest term.

(i) 15/35

(ii) 18/24

--------------

Given :

  • 15/35
  • 18/24

To :

  • convert the following in the lowest term.

Solution :

  • Here, we have to divide the numerator and denominator by the HCF of the denominator and numerator.

⇒ Let's convert them.

  • HCF of 15 and 35 = 5

→ 15/35

→ 15 ÷ 5/35 ÷ 5

→ 3/7

  • HCF of 18 and 24 = 6.

→ 18/24

→ 18 ÷ 6/24 ÷ 6

→ 3/4

Q2) Add the following.

(i) 5/9 + 2/9

(ii) 5/6 + 3/4

--------------

Given :

  • 5/9 + 2/9
  • 5/6 + 3/4

To :

  • add the following fractions

Solution :

⇒ Let's add them.

→ 5/9 + 2/9

→ 5 + 2/9

→ 7/9

→ 5/6 + 3/4

→ 5/6 + 3/4 [LCM of 6 and 4 = 12]

→ (5 × 2/6 × 2) + (3 × 3/4 × 3)

→ 10/12 + 9/12

→ 10 + 9/12

→ 19/12

Q3) Subtract the following.

(i) 10/1 - 9/1

(ii) 11/12 - 10/9

--------------

Given :

  • 10/1 - 9/1
  • 11/12 - 10/9

To :

  • subtract the following fractions

Solution :

⇒ Let's subtract the fractions.

→ 10/1 - 9/1

→ 10 - 9/1

→ 1/1

→ 1

→ 11/12 - 10/9

→ (11 × 3/12 × 3) - (10 × 4/9 × 4)

→ 33/36 - 40/36

→ 33 - 40/36

→ -7/36

Q4) What should be added to 14/5 to get 6/7?

--------------

Given :

  • 14/5 to get 6/7?

To find :

  • what should be added to 14/5 to get 6/7.

Solution :

14/5 + x = 6/7

x = 6/7 - 14/5 [LCM of 7 and 5]

x = (6 × 5/7 × 5) - (14 × 7/5 × 7)

x = 30/35 - 98/35

x = 30 - 98/35

x = -68/35

Q5) A tin contains 12/6kg ghee. How many kgs of ghee contains in such 28 tins?

--------------

Given :

  • Tin contains = 12/6 kg ghee

To find :

  • many kgs of ghee contain in such 28 tins.

Solution :

⇒ Let's find many kgs of ghee contain in such 28 tins.

One tine = 12/6 kg

28 = 12/6 × 28

= 12/6 × 28/1

= 12 × 28/6 × 1

= 336/6

= 56 kgs
