What is meant by atmospheric pressure?

  • When the molecules are tightly packed atmospheric pressure is exerted.
  • Molecules are tightly packed in sea level. Thus, Atmospheric pressure means sea level pressure.
  • Atmospheric pressure is also called air pressure.
  • The weight of the air(Molecules) is tightly packed in lower altitude compared to higher altitude i.e Lower altitude= High atmospheric pressure, Higher altitude= Low atmospheric pressure.
  • Atmospheric pressure is measured using barometer.

☯ What is the cause of atmospheric pressure?

\begin{gathered}\underline{\textsf{\textbf{\purple{Causes \::}}}}\\ \end{gathered}

  • Atmospheric pressure causes due to gravitational force.
  • The molecules present on the earth are pulled downwards, Due to this atmospheric pressure is higher in lower altitude.

☯ Why are our bodies not crushed by the large pressure exerted by the atmosphere?

Our bodies are not crushed by the large pressure exerted by the atmosphere because the pressure present in our blood and the pressure present in the air gets balanced.

☯ Explain why, atmospheric pressure decreases as we go higher up above the earth's surface.

We know that, When the molecules of air are tightly packed, atmospheric pressure is high. Due to gravitational force the molecules present in the air are pulled downwards. Since The molecules present in lower altitude are tightly packed, atmospheric pressure is high here compared to higher altitude. Now, As we move higher towards the earth surface, Since The molecules present there are not tightly packed(As molecules are pulled downwards), Atmospheric pressure is low.

Q1. What is meant by atmospheric pressure? What is the cause of atmospheric pressure?

 \implies When the molecules are tightly packed atmospheric pressure is exerted.

Molecules are tightly packed in sea level. Thus, Atmospheric pressure means sea level pressure.

Atmospheric pressure is also called air pressure. The weight of the air(Molecules) is tightly packed in lower altitude compared to higher altitude i.e Lower altitude = High atmospheric pressure, Higher altitude= Low atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is measured using barometer. Atmospheric pressure causes due to gravitational force. The molecules present on the earth are pulled downwards, Due to this atmospheric pressure is higher in lower altitude.

Q3. Explain why, atmospheric pressure decreases as we go higher up above the earth's surface.
