★ Subsidary Alliance :
- Subsidary Alliance was an annexation policy introduced by Lord Wellesley .
- Under this act ; the king had to form a pact with the British East India Company following some rules and regulations like :
- Not forming alliances with any other group
- Paying for the army
- Allowing a person called Resident to reside in the king's court . This Resident used to interfere in all matters which made the rulers angry.
- Accept that East India Company was the supreme power .
- Instead of all those above ; the British used to protect the ruler from outer invasions and helped them during wars .
★ Doctrine of Lapse :
- Doctrine of Lapse was another annexation policy . It was introduced by Lord Dalhousie
- According to this act ; if any ruler did not have a male heir (natural male heir) the territory would directly undergo the rule of British .
- Many kingdoms like :
- Jhansi
- Satara
- Udaipur
- Sambhalpur
- Nagpur
- Adoptions were denied .
★ Sedition Act of 1870 :
- This act stated that the British government could arrest anyone who is found to be criticizing or trying to change people against British through protests without any fair trials .
- Sometimes people were fined or punished instead of being arrested .
- The imprisonment was for 3 years .
★ Hindu Succession Act of 2005 :
- According to this act both the son and the daughter will get the equal property rights from thier fathers .
- This act was started and passed to show gender equality .
- This is an amended act . It was amended jn the year 2005 . Before this the property was given only to son and daughter could enjoy that only till she got married.
