Subsidence of northern flank of peninsular plateau:

Subsidence of northern flank of peninsular plateau refers to the sudden downward sinking of the north part of Peninsular plateau when Indo-Australian plate collided with Eurasian plate, it resulted in the upliftment of the sediments of the Tethys Sea and formation of large basin due to subsequent subsidence of peninsular plateau in the north.

Eventually, over the course of million years this depression is filled with the alluvial soil by three main Himalayan rives- Gangs, Indus and Brahmaputra and their tributaries. Thus, fertile northern plain is formed.
