advantages:
- farmers are self-sufficient and not dependent on anyone
- the land of the country is taken care of and used for cultivation as the land may become barren if ignored
- they are done on small scale and make use of very less land, no wastage of land, more yield is obtained from small scale land, whereas in extensive large areas of land are occupied but not used to their fullest.
disadvantages:
- standard of farmers is poor
-farmers suffer if no rain as they depend on nature for irrigation
- it does not add to the economy of the country as most of the yield is consumed by farmers and is not sold in the markets
