Answer: x=1/4 , y=6

Step-by-step explanation:

2x+3/y =1

5x-2/y =11/12

let 1/y =m

therefore, we have 2x+3m=1 .... (1)

                                5x-2m=11/12 .... (2)

from (1), we have,

m= (1-2x)/3

substitute this in (1)

we have: 5x -2{(1-2x)/3}=11/12

= 5x-[(2-4x)/3]=11/12

= 5x-(2+4x)/3=11/12

= (15x-2+4x)/3=11/12 ( cancel 3 and 12)

= 19x-2 =11/4

= 19x=19/4

= x=1/4

substitute this in (1):

we have:

2x+3m=1

2(1/4) + 3m =1

1/2 +3m = 1

3m=1/2

m=1/6

but.. we had assumed in the beginning that 1/y=m

= 1/y = 1/6

= y=6

therefore,

x=1/4 and y=6

Hope that helps!!
