or, 9x - 2(8-6x/5) = 31

or, 9x - (16 - 12x)/5 = 31

or, 45x - 16 + 12x = 155

or, 57x = 155+ 16

or, 57x = 171

or, x = 171/57 = 3

putting value of x in 1)

6x + 5y = 8

or, 18 + 5y = 8

or, 5y = 8-18

or, 5y = -10

or, y = -2

So x = 3 y = -2
