Saturated hydrocarbons carry out substitution reaction in which their hydrogen atoms, can be replaced by other atoms or groups in presence of some catalysts or other activating agents.

Due to presence of carbon - carbon and carbon - hydrogen bonds, the saturated compounds of carbon are fairly non reactive. But in presence of some activators they are indulged in substitution reaction.
