To subtract : -3 from \frac{5}{7}

Solution :

  • Subtraction is the arithmetic operation of taking off difference between two numbers.
  • Subtraction rules for integers:
  1. If two negative integers are to be subtracted then addition operation is performed and difference obtained has negative sign . i.e. $(-)-(-)=-$
  2. If one negative and one positive integers are to be subtracted then operation performed is subtraction and difference obtained has sign greater obtained is negative integer. i.e.  $(-)-(+)=sign \ of \ greater\ integer
  3. If both positive integers are to be subtracted then operation performed    is subtraction and difference obtained has sign of greater number i.e.$(+)-(+)= sign \ of\ greater \ number
  • Therefore according to above rule we solve.

         \frac{5}{7} - (-3 )\\=\frac{5+ 21}{7} \\=\frac{26}{7}

Hence, \frac{26}{7} is the answer.
