sum of 12x +9y+(-2y)
=12x +9y-2y
=12x+7y

subtract 4x -3y from 12x + 7y
=12x + 7y-(4x - 3y)
=12x + 7y-4x +3y
=12x - 4x + 7y + 3y
=8x + 10y

sum =  \: 12x + 9y  +  (- 2y)   \\  = 12x + 9y - 2y \\  = 12x + 7y \\  \\ subtract = (12x + 7y) - (4x - 3y) \\  =( 12x - 4x) + (7y - 3y) \\  = 16x + 4y
