It os just like 1-4=-3 because and also 7/8 is bigger value and 1 also 5/8 is smaller value or number and we know that when bigger number is substracted by smaller number then number is always negative.
8-8 = 4 but 7-5 =2
Yes 7-5=2 but here is 5-7=-2
then the answer should be -2
then why -1/4????
Because here is 5/8-7/8=-2/8 which can be also write -1/4
