Answer:

= (3a² - 5ax - x²) +( -2a² + 3ax + 4x²)

= 3a² - 5ax - x² - 2a² + 3ax + 4x²

= a² - 2ax + 3x²

now

subtracting a² - 2ax + x² from a² - 2ax + 3x²

= (a² - 2ax + 3x²) - ( a² - 2ax + x²)

=a² - 2ax + 3x² - a² + 2ax - x²

= 2x²
