To subtract : a^{2} + 3b^{2} from -5b^{2} + 8c^{2}

Solution :

  • To subtract given algebraic expression , we subtract like terms together .
  • Therefore, arranging given terms in correct order , we get ,

                    ( - 5b^{2} + 8c ) - ( a^{2} + 3 b^{2} )

  • Removing parenthesis  and changing sign we  subtract given expressions.
  • -5b^{2} + 8c - a^{2} - 3b^{2}

       = -8b^{2} - a^{2} + 8c

  • Multiplying by negative sign .

       = a^{2} + 8 b^{2} - 8c

       = a^{2} + 8(b^{2} - c )

Hence , on subtracting  a^{2} + 3b^{2} from -5b^{2} + 8c^{2} we get a^{2} + 8 ( b^{2} - c).
