Answer:

The value of the operation , subtract the sum of 1/2 and 1/4 from 1  is \frac{1}{4}

Step-by-step explanation:

To subtract the sum of \frac{1}{2} and \frac{1}{4} from 1 .

Step 1: Sum \frac{1}{2} and \frac{1}{4}

As , for these two fractions, their denominators are different, the numerators of these fractions cannot be directly added. So the denominators are to be made common, by taking the LCM of the denominators and rationalizing them.

Total  = \frac{1}{2}  + \frac{1}{4}

         =\frac{2+1}{4}

         = \frac{3}{4}

Step 2: Subtract the Total obtained in Step 1  from 1

Once again, the denominators of these numbers are to be made common by taking the LCM of these denominators ( 1 and 4 ) and rationalizing them. Once the denominators are made common, the numerators can be subtracted.

       =  1 -\frac{3}{4}

       =  \frac{4-3}{4}

       =  \frac{1}{4}

So the value of this operation is \frac{1}{4}
