Question:

Subtracting 5 from thrice of 'x' results 4. What is the value of 15 is subtracted from nine times of 'x'.

Let "3x" represent thrice of x

Equation:

3x - 5 = 4

Solution 1: Find x

     3x - 5 = 4

3x - 5 + 5 = 4 + 5     add 5 to both sides

           3x = 9

           \frac{3x}{3} = \frac{9}{3}            divide 3 to both sides

            x = 3

Solution 2: What is the value of 15 is subtracted from nine times of 'x'.

=9x - 15

=9(3) - 15     replace x with 3

= 27 - 15

= 12

Answer:

12
