Answer:

I think that this quote can go two ways. Success either bestows humanity because it is inevitable or it bestows humanity because it is crucial to our survival.

In the first case, success must bestow humanity because humanity continues to progress in various ways regardless of if this is a good thing or a bad thing. For example, much of humanity is accustomed to a lifestyle that involves technology, so humanity will continue to develop technology as it is used in every day life, and people will actively work to improve upon it, whether it is for money, the well being of others, convenience, or anything else. Phones were invented to speed up long distance communication. Long distance communication in the form of paper mail was invented so that people could address each other without having to be there physically with them. Communication on paper was created to that people could convey ideas without having to memorize them. Communication was created so that people could share their ideas. All of this shows how success must bestow humanity, because success is defined by our achievements, and the achievements of humanity are the ways in which our lives have changed and been improved upon over time.

In the second case however, where the quote reads as success MUST bestow humanity, this can be interpreted as the threat of consequence if it doesn't. For example, if humanity does not find a way to continue the survival of its species as it exists on a planet with limited resources, humanity will cease to exist. If humanity does not solve the issues it has created within itself as a result of progress, for example, the impact of something like carbon emissions, then the consequences of not succeeding in finding a solution could be extremely impactful. The issues that are constantly created as an effect of solutions is why humanity is required to constantly find them.
