Student Success
Student success is a controversial issue without any controversy. Not everyone realizes that every individual has different ideals for success. These ideals may not fit the paradigm of student success held by a school. Therefore, student success is a difficult subject to understand. Furthermore, student success can not be forced upon any one and must be approached from a less traditional angle than I have seen thus far.
The out come of my own personal experiences has made me a sort of expert in the field of student success. I am a walking student success story. Going from a special education program to the honors program, has taken me many places and taught me many lessons.
Over the years, I have come up with somewhat of a formula for student success. Student success is interdependent on four things. First off, knowing what success means to you then effort, teamwork and competition.
Throughout history, we see successful people that do not fit our current student success paradigm. People such as Albert Einstein that dropped out of high school yet signal handedly change the world. Bill Gates, college drop out that went on to be one of the richest people in the world. These are people who did not see success as a letter grade or a degree, they saw success in themselves. A quote I think best emphasizes the differences in individual success was once said by a college president to his faculty. "Be nice to your A students because they will come back and be your collogues. Be even nicer to your C students because they will come back and donate millions of dollars to the school."
Without the student putting forth effort, student success is impossible to achieve. Every individual has different obstacles to over come before they are successful. The key is, wanting to overcome these obstacles. Once a person realizes what success is for him or her rather then being told what success is, the effort to move towar
