  x = 2y
4(y-6) = 4+x
4y-24 = 4 + 2y
2y = 28
y = 14, x = 28
They were 11 and 25 three years ago.

hope this helps u...

Let seema`s present  age be x yrs
sudesh`s present age = 2x yrs
subtracting 6 yrs from seema`s age = (x-6)
adding 4 yrs to sudesh`s age = 2x+4
according to the question
4(x-6) = 2x+4
⇒4x - 24 = 2x +4
⇒4x-2x = 24+4
⇒2x = 28
⇒ x = 28/2
∴ x = 14
∴present age of seema = x =14 yrs
  present age of sudesh = 2x = 2×14 = 28 yrs
∴Three years ago
semma`s age = 14-3 = 11yrs
sudesh`s age = 28-3 = 25yrs
