India is the world's largest producer of sugarcane after Cuba.
sugarcane season normally from 4 to 7 months in a year after that the mills owners and their workers have to remain jobless rest period of the year. That creates a financial problem for both.
competition with khandseri and Gur - In India khandseri and Gur are manufactured in rural areas and free from excise duty ,it can offer higher prices of cane to the cane growers, this is also a competition for sugar industry.
Low per capita consumption - The per capita annual consumption of sugar in India only 16.3 kg as against 48.8 kg in the USA.,53.6 kg in U.K..,57.1 kg in Australia..and 78.2 kg in Cuba the world average of about 21,1 kg .This result in low market demand and creates problems for sugar sale.
Answer: The industry is seasonal, so getting labor becomes difficult. India is still using old and inefficient production methods, affecting its production. There are transport delays in transporting sugarcane to factories, resulting in it losing its sugar content.
