sugar ,on being treated with H2So4,forms a black residue,we find a difference in weights.why?​

Answer:

When we add concentrated sulfuric acid to sugar the result is interesting. The sulfuric acid is dehydrating agent and it dehydrates the carbohydrate sugar, removing the water and heating it into steam leaving behind a carbon foam. Thats why it looks black.

THAT IS WHY IT WHEIGHS DIFFRENT.

on being treated sugar with sulfuric acid from black residue and difference in weight because

the black colour is due to formation of carbon and difference in weight due to the amount of energy realised in the overall exothermic reaction as well as the formation of carbohydrates whose weight is lesser then sugar .

Reaction

C6H12O6 + H2SOA ------> carbon + carbohydrates
