Procedure:

In this test, we need to add small amount of sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium bicarbonate to ethanol and ethanoic acid in separate test tubes.

Observation:

Ethanol will not react with sodium bicarbonate because it cannot dissociate hydrogen ion while ethanoic acid will react with sodium bicarbonate to form sodium ethanoate, carbon dioxide and water.
