Suggest a method of reduction for the following metals during their metallurgical processes:

(i) metal ‘A’ which is one of the last, second or third position in the reactivity.

(ii) metal ‘B’ which gives vigorous reaction even with water and air.

ANSWER :

(i) ‘A’ can be obtained by chemical reduction using carbon or carbon monoxide as reducing agent.

(ii) ‘B’ can be obtained by electrolytic reduction.

(iii) ‘C’ can be reduced by reducing agent like ‘Al’.

Hello,

1. as A are least reactive metals, so they can we find in pure state, they will not be find in combined state because they are least reactive metals, so they are extracted by the process of oxidation.

2. as B are most reactive metal, they are extracted by the process of electrolysis.

3. as C are medium reactive metals, they are extracted by ==>

Carbonate ore. | sulphide ore

=>calcination. | roasting

then, metal oxides==> reduction to metal==>refining.
