the whole activity of gold foil experiment done by Rutherford in which he bombarded fast moving alpha particles into the gold foil and only one alpha particle came back straight on its path , few deflected with obtuse angle and few with larger angles and rest all went straight through the gold foil
conclusions:
as most of the particles went straight it tells us that most of the space in an atom is empty
as few deflected with some angles it tells us that there is positively charged nucleus in the centre of the atom
as only one particle went back on its straight path it tells us that the nucleus in the centre is very hard and dense.
