All planned economies have one thing in common. They pass through periodical food crises, some, as in the Soviet Union, lasting for years on end. Suprisingly, food crises are never heard of in free economies - never, for instance, in the United States or Canada or even in tiny overcrowded countries like Britain and Japan - though there are occasional ups and downs in prices

Well since independence there has been a daily struggle among government to make India self sufficient in food grains for this indira Gandhi also introduced a special stamp indicating 'wheat revolution'........various of the measures are taken for ex.....the buffer stock system where the FCi procures food grains from farmers and store it.....secondly pds system I.e. Public distribution system...under it tpds and rpds are introduced...many poverty alleviation programmes are slowly making the act more profitable.....co-operatives ar also helping in securing food for people in need and so that we may never take help of other countries for storing food.
