Lead poisoning is a threat to people of any age group, but especially so for children. Lead is a substance that is mixed in many day-to-day materials that we use like house paint, cosmetics, toys etc. Ingesting lead even in minute amounts can cause growth issues, poor performance, low IQ levels etc. Small children tend to put things in their mouth unknowingly and hence it can lead to serious threats.

Effective measures for preventing lead poisoning:

a) Avoid sending small children to play in sand. Instead, choose parks and gardens for them to play.

b) Check lables when you are buying cosmetics. Lead is a common ingredient in cosmetics.

c) Lead was used in house paints earlier but now the use is banned. But some exterior paints still have lead in them.

d) Avoid buying cheap quality to toys for your children.

e) Art supplies have lead. Do not buy them for small children.

f) Sometimes dust has traces of lead. Keep interiors clean. Vaccuum clean your upholstery regularly. Teach your children to wash before entering the house after play time.

This program aims to get success in this process through medical treatment, counselling, parenting, research, community outreach, lead-safe and temporary housing, education and much more.
