Answer:
(1) Iodine changes directly from solid to gaseous state on heating.
- The gaseous form of Iodine can be cooled easily to get a pure solid. The remaining components of the mixture are salt and sand.
- Salt is soluble in water and sand is non-water soluble substance that can be separated by the process of filtration.
- The insoluble sand remains in the filter paper while the filtrate contains the dissolved salt.
(2) How can we separate a mixture of two immiscible liquids?
- Pour the mixture of kerosene oil and water in a separating funnel.
- Let it stand undisturbed for sometime so that separate layers of oil and water are formed.
- Open the stopcock of the separating funnel and pour out the lower layer of water carefully.
