Answer:

The Volusia-Floridan Aquifer is unlike any aquifer in Florida. Designation by the EPA as the Volusia-Floridan Sole Source Aquifer means our aquifer functions as an underground water source that supplies at least 50 percent of the drinking water consumed in the area overlying the aquifer. These areas have no alternative drinking water source(s) that could physically, legally and economically supply all those who depend upon the aquifer for drinking water. This is an important part of why we must conserve and protect this valuable water supply in Volusia County.

Water restrictions

The following year-round watering restrictions remain in place for all county residents, including those who live inside city limits:

Watering is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

During Daylight Savings Time, people who live at odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, people at even-numbered addresses may water on Thursdays and Sundays, and businesses may water on Tuesdays and Fridays.

During Standard Time, which begins the first Sunday in November, people who live at odd-numbered addresses may water on Saturdays, people at even-numbered addresses may water on Sundays, and businesses may water on Tuesdays.

Each zone of your irrigation system may be watered no more than one hour or three-quarters of an inch on your permitted day.
