suggest the measures taken up by the modern governments to improve HDI?
Answers
Owing to certain defects in the government system like spending less on health, discrimination in society, outdated education curriculum etc., India seems to be slipping down in its HDI ranking according to the released HDI report by UNDP.
Therefore, a few measures need to be taken to improve the HDI in India.
1. Education - Building of proper infrastructure, attracting talented teachers, bringing awareness among students and parents about education using extensive campaigning and providing some incentives to children from poor families and effective implementation of educational programs is required.
2. Health - Infrastructure like hospitals and laboratories etc., must be established, and health care system needs to be improvised with providing improved access to basic health facilities, better awareness and utilisation via various programmes.
3. Income - Encouraging FDI's in multiple sectors, women empowerment through jobs in health, tourism, strengthening laws, developing infrastructure and reshaping societal attitude could help.
4. Gender Equality
5. Poverty Alleviation - Plugging issues from welfare schemes
