Water resources are sources of water that are useful to mankind or are likely to be used.

Around three quarters of the Earth is surrounded by water in the whole world, but 97% of this water is saline which is not potable, the amount of potable water is only 3%. Of this, 2% water is in the form of glacier and ice. Thus only 1% water is available for human use in the true sense.

We can divide the sources of water into three parts -

  • Water received from the top of the surface - It is rain water which is pure but due to lack of vigilance, there is a fear of dissolving many types of impurities.

  • Surface water - River, pond, lake, waterfall etc. are types of surface water.

  • Inland water - raw and cooked wells, stepwells, boring etc.
