Roller skates would be ineffective on ice compared to ice skates as wheels have a larger contact area than a blade; and so exert less pressure; there would be very low friction; so the roller skates would slip; and steering and stopping would be difficult.

- On the other hand roller skates comprises of wheels that perform gliding mechanisms.
- Roller skates will not be effective as they will dig into the ice surface. Whereas, the blades of the ice skates allows the skater to glide as they are made of steel.
