ROLE OF WOMEN IN PANCHAYATI RAJ SYSTEM:-
Panchayats have been the backb0ne of grassr0ot democracy in the Indian villages since its beginning. Gandhi had @ptly favoured the panchayati raj and his dream got transl@ted with the passage of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 (or simply the Panchayati Raj Act), which introduced the three-tier Panchayati Raj system to ensure pe0ple’s participation in rural rec0nstruction in general and that of w0men in particular. It came int0 force with effect from April 24, 1993.
Provisi0ⁿs for women in the @ct:-
-> The Act provides for the reservation of not le$s than one-third of the total number of seats for women .
-> Further not le$s than one-third of the total number of offices of chairpersons in the Panchayats at each level shall be reserved for women. This would be rotated among different Panchayats at each level.
