Suhani has noted down the following distances from odometer at different

intervals of time. Considering that bike starts at 8:00 am, find the speed of bike

at 9:00 and 11:00 am-

Time Reading in odometer (km) Speed of bike(km/h)

8:00 am 1320 0

9:00 am 1345 ?

11:00 am 1395 ?

Given: Odometer readings at particular time intervals

  • 8:00 am 1320 km
  • 9:00 am 1345 km
  • 11:00 am 1395 km

The Journey started at 8 am

To Find: speed of bike at 9:00 and 11:00 am

Solution:

Formula used:

  • Total distance covered at a particular time = Final distance "f" (distance covered at time interval where to find speed) - initial distance "u" (distance at time interval when the journey started)
  • Speed(v) = Total distance(D)/time(T)
  1. Calculating speed at 9:00 am

Distance covered at 9 am = final distance - initial distance

initial distance - u = 1320km

final distance - f = 1345km (at 9am distance shown in odometer)

Distance covered - D = 1345 - 1320

D = 25

speed = D/T

T = 9-8 = 1hr

v = 25/1

v = 25km/hr at 9:00 am

     2. Calculating speed at 11:00 am

f = 1395km

u = 1320km

D = 1395 - 1320 = 75km

T = 11 - 8 = 3hr

v = D/T

v = 75/3

v = 25km/hr at 11:00 am

Hence, speed at 9 and 11 am remains same = 25km/hr
