However, as population increased, rampant uses of such resources started putting strain on their availability. Realisation dawned that of we do not use such resources judiciously and devise methods for sustenance, developments based on such resources will come to a standstill once these are exhausted.
Therefore, in the present day scenario, stress is laid on the sustainability of development and several researches in devising methods for development with these assets, has spawned a new area of knowledge.
