Sulekha has decided to buy a car. She has to choose between a diesel car and a petrol car. The diesel car costs ₹15400 more than the petrol car. However, it can travel 16 kilometres per litre, whereas the petrol car can only travel 11 kilometres per litre. Also, diesel costs ₹56.00 per litre, and petrol costs ₹62.70 per litre. If she buys a diesel car, how many kilometres must she drive before the savings in fuel covers the extra price of the diesel car?

Answer:

7000 km

Step-by-step explanation:

take the LCM of 16 and 11 we get 176

so if she travel 176 by a diesel car it will take 11 litre diesel and it will cost her 11* 56 = 616 RS

now if she travel 176 km by petrol car then she has to use 16 litre of petrol which will cost her 16* 62.70 = 1003.2 RS

so it means by travelling 176 km she can save = 387.2 rs

she has to save 15400 RS so the distance she should cover = (15400/387.2)*176 = 7000 km
