Step-by-step explanation:

3mph for 3 hrs towards East 9 km

4mph for 3 hrs towards south 12 km

by applying Pythagoras theorem we get 15km

Answer:

15 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Refer to attachment for the diagram

It is given that Suley proceeds South and Mohamed proceeds East

So they make a Right angled triangle because South and East are perpendicular to each other (Refer the diagram)

We know that Distance covered = speed * time

So distance covered by Suley = 4 mph * 3 hours = 12 miles

So distance covered by Mohamed = 3 mph * 3 hours = 9 miles

Now the distance between Suley and Mohamed is the Hypotenuse (BC) of the Right angled Triangle

PYTHAGORAS' THEOREM : Hypotenuse² = Base² + Altitude²

=> (BC)² = (AB)² + (AC)²

=> (BC)² = (12)² + (9)²

=> (BC)² = 144 + 81

=> (BC)² = 225

=> BC = √ 225

=> BC = 15 miles

Therefore the distance between Suley and Mohamed after 3 hours was 15  miles
