The S-S bond energy 213kJ/Mol therefore bond strength is more compared to O-O bond energy 138kJ/mol.Sulphur naturally exists in nature as S8 molecules. On heating these rings break & link jointly in to long chains.Hence sulphur has greater tendency for catenation thanoxygen.
