Answer:

Y =30 and X=110

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the two numbers be x and y

x + y = 140

Let

x > y

Then

x - y = 80

(i)

x = 80 + y

When we substitute for x with (i)

Then

80 + y + y = 140

2y + 80 = 140

2y = 140 - 80

2y = 60

y =  \frac{60}{2}

y = 30

Then x

x = 80 + 30

x = 110

Given :  Sum of two numbers = 140

Difference = 80

To Find :  Numbers

Solution:

Let say numbers are  a  and b

a  + b = 140   Eq1

a - b = 80      Eq2

Adding both equations

a + b + a - b = 140 + 80

=> 2a = 220

=> a = 110

Substitute in Eq1

=> 110 + b = 140

=>  b = 140 - 110

=> b = 30

Hence two numbers are 110 and 30
