Given :

  • A quadratic polynomial x² - 4 x + 3

To find :

  • sum and product of zeroes of given polynomial

Knowledge required :

In a quadratic polynomial of the form

a x² + b x + c

  • sum of zeroes = - coefficient of x / coefficient of x² = -b / a
  • product of zeroes = constant term/ coefficient of x² = c / a

Solution :

Comparing given polynomial x² - 4 x + 3 with a x² + b x + c

we will get,

  • a = 1
  • b = -4
  • c = 3

so,

→ sum of zeroes = - b / a

→ sum of zeroes = - ( - 4 ) / ( 1 )

→ sum of zeroes = 4 / 1

sum of zeroes = 4

and,

→ product of zeroes = c / a

→ product of zeroes = 3 / 1

product of zeroes = 3

therefore,

  • Sum and product of zeroes of polynomial x² - 4 x + 3  is 4 and 3 respectively .
