Question:-

Sum of a number and it's inverse is 25/12. Find the number.

Solution:-

Let the number be x.

Therefore, according to the given conditions,

\sf x +  \frac{1}{x}  =  \frac{25}{12}

 \sf \implies \frac{ {x}^{2} + 1 }{x}   =  \frac{25}{12}

 \sf \implies 12 {x}^{2}  + 12 = 25x

 \sf \implies 12 {x}^{2}  - 25x + 12 = 0

 \sf \implies 12 {x}^{2}  - 9x - 16x + 12 = 0

 \sf \implies 3x(4x - 3) - 4(4x  - 3) = 0

 \sf \implies (3x- 4)(4x  - 3) = 0

Therefore, either (3x-4)=0 or (4x-3)=0

So,

 \sf x =  \frac{4}{3}  \: or \:  \frac{3}{4}

Hence, the number is 4/3 or 3/4.

Answer:-

  • The number is 4/3 or 3/4.
