5 ( x + 5) = 7 ( x - 35 )

5x + 25 = 7x - 245

245 + 25 = 7x - 5x

2x = 270

x = $\frac { 270}{2}$

x = 135 years.

Father's present age = 135 years.

Son's present age = 135 - 40 = 95 years.
