Age of A = 13 years

Age of B = 16 years

Given:

Sum of ages of A and B is 29 years

A is younger than B by 3 years

To find:

The ages of A and B

Solution:

Given Sum of A and B = 29 years

A + B = 29 ------(1)

A younger than B by 3 years

⇒ A = B - 3

⇒ A - B = -3 -----(2)

add (1) and (2)

⇒  A + B + A - B = 29 - 3

⇒ 2 A = 26

⇒ A = 26/2 = 13

Age of A = 13 years

Substitute A = 13 in A + B = 29

⇒ 13 + B = 29

⇒ B = 29 - 13 = 16 years

Age of B = 16 years

Therefore,

Age of A = 13 years

Age of B = 16 years
